Hans Ottinot was recently recognized as one of the top government attorneys in the South Florida area by the South Florida Legal Guide. He has extensive experience in all areas of municipal law, having represented local and state governments for numerous years. In May 2005 Mr. Ottinot was unanimously selected by the City Commission to serve as City Attorney for the City of Sunny Isles Beach.
As City Attorney, Mr. Ottinot is primarily responsible for providing legal advice to the City Commission, City Manager, and employees of the City. Specifically, he is responsible for drafting ordinances, resolutions, charter amendments, and contracts. Mr. Ottinot has played a critical role in the redevelopment of the City by providing legal advice on numerous development projects.
Prior to being appointed City Attorney, Mr. Ottinot served as Deputy City Attorney for the City of Sunny Isles Beach. He has also worked as City Attorney for the City of North Miami and the City of Miami Gardens. Mr. Ottinot was a litigator with the Office of the Attorney General, where he represented state agencies and state officials in civil matters in state and federal court. He is a former Staff Counsel in the Division of Communications with the Florida Public Service Commission.
Mr. Ottinot is admitted to practice in the State of Florida, United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He has represented clients before the Florida Supreme Court, Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Third District Court of Appeals. Mr. Ottinot is an active member in a number of professional organizations including the Haitian Lawyers Association; Caribbean Bar Association; Wilkie D. Ferguson Bar Association; Cuban American Bar Association; and the American Bar Association.
Mr. Ottinot received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Colgate University in 1992. He excelled not only in the classroom, but on the gridiron as well. He was an All ECAC Division I-AA football player. After graduating from Colgate University, Mr. Ottinot attended the University of Miami School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor in 1995. He lives with wife, Margarita, and children, Hans Jr., Lia and Nelson.
