Youth Athletics

The Cultural & Community Services Department offers seasonal athletics year-round, for youth of all ages. Each program runs for a set period of time and meets once, twice or multiple times a week.  Registration for all activities is held at the Pelican Community Park Community Center, located at 18115 North Bay Road.

After School Sportstacular Sports League
(Grades 6-8)
FREE
Students will play games such as flag football, soccer, battleball and more! Participation points will be awarded and may be redeemed for trips to movies, bowling and more! Please call the Cultural & Community Services Department at Pelican Community Park: 305.792.1706.

Baseball
(ages 4 – 10)
Exposes young players to the necessary repetitions needed to excel at the game of baseball. Lead by academy coordinator and founder, Andres De Cordova, the training program will consist of fundamental baseball skills in hitting, fielding and base-running. Instruction is conducted at Pelican Community Park baseball field, 18115 North Bay Road. Uniform jersey and baseball cap are included in the registration fee. Basketball Academy
(ages 8-14)
Introduces players to basic rules, skills, and key fundamentals required to play the game of basketball. Players are exposed to a variety of drills to develop or enhance conditioning, ball handling, passing and shooting ability. Intra-squad games are played to enforce skills acquired. Basketball Academy is recommended for players that seek to play in the City’s youth recreational basketball league, during the Winter season. Programs are run at Pelican Community Park, RK Sports Center Gymnasium, 18115 North Bay Road. Basketball, Pee Wee
(ages 5-7)
Provides a fun, nurturing and positive learning experience for young players to develop an interest in the exciting game of basketball. Participants will learn how to follow simple instructions, pass, catch, dribble and shoot. A variety of age appropriate games are played to enhance lessons learned. Basketball: Recreational League
(ages 7-14)
Competitive, but fun play for those who have learned basic basketball skills and would like to compete in league games. The league is split by ages groups. Please call the Cultural and Community Services Department at Pelican Community Park at 305.792. 1706.

Basketball: Drop In League (Members Only)
(ages 12-16)
Put together a team of five and compete in weekly basketball games. Points are awarded for each win. Prizes awarded to teams with the best record overall. Please call the Cultural & Community Services Department at Pelican Community Park at 305.792.1706.

Cheer & Dance – Recreational
(ages 6-12)
Participants enrolled in cheer and dance will learn a variety of cheers, motions, jumps, stunts and dances. Teamwork and uniformity are enhanced through a variety of fun activities, events, games and routines. Recreational Cheer and Dance is designed for participants of all skill levels, no try-out is required. All cheerleaders will have the opportunity to showcase skills acquired during games or events. Cheer & Dance – Advanced
(ages 8-12)
Participants enrolled in cheer and dance will learn a variety of cheers, motions, jumps, stunts and dances. Teamwork and uniformity are enhanced through a variety of fun activities, events, games and routines. Advanced Cheer and Dance is for participants with experience and skill required to compete in local or national competition. Try-outs are required for placement in Advanced Cheer & Dance. Cheer: Tumbling
Prerequisite for Advance Cheer
(ages 6-12)
Participants enrolled in Cheer: Tumbling will learn a variety of cheers, motions, jumps, stunts and dances to prepare for Advanced Cheer. For more information about registration, please call the Cultural and Community Services Department at Pelican Community Park at 305.792. 1706.

Field Hockey
(ages 7-10)
Offers participants the opportunity to learn skills required to play the exciting and fast paced game of field hockey. Practices are designed to teach basic skill and techniques necessary to dribble, pass, shoot and defend. Games may be arranged based on the development of players or team. Flag Football
(ages 9-12)
Offers participants the opportunity to play American football without the physical contact. Participants will learn rules of the game, concepts, positions, fundamentals and teamwork. Development will be enhanced through a variety of drills, exercises and scrimmages. Mouthpiece recommended. Practices are run at Senator Gwen Margolis Park, 17815 North Bay Road. Gymnastics
(ages 4-13)
Keep your child flexible and in shape with this fun and popular gymnastics class. Children will learn basic tumbling skills, as instructors teach children with varying skill levels. Karate
(ages 5-adult)
Group assignments are based on skill level as determined by the instructor. Learn balance, strength, and defense skills with this specialized martial art. Parents & Tots F.U.S.E. (Fun & Unique Sports & Exercise)
(ages 2 – 4)

Soccer: SEAS Recreational
(ages 6-14)
Offers players the opportunity to develop and enhance skills required to become a team player and compete in local soccer games. Program focus is teamwork, skill development, concepts, rules and sportsmanship. Practices include a variety of drills, exercises and scrimmages. Shin guards required. Uniform provided. Games played each Saturday at Senator Gwen Margolis or Pelican Community Park. Game schedules will be distributed weekly. Schedules are also available online. Soccer Instructional
(6-10)
Provides a platform for players to develop or enhance confidence, skill, and ability needed for organized play at the recreational or competitive level. Lessons are designed to introduce players to the game of soccer at a pace to better understand and embrace the skill and teamwork required to play. Practices include a variety of drills, exercises and scrimmages. Shin guards and cleats required. Practices meet twice weekly at Pelican Community Park, 18115 North Bay Road. Travel League Soccer
(ages 6-17)
The City sponsors a competitive travel soccer program for boys and girls ages 6 – 17. Travel league soccer is for players that are highly skilled or experienced. Practices and games feature a more aggressive, physically demanding, and quicker style of play. Playing time is often based on each player’s ability or skill level. Games are played locally and throughout the region. Practices are conducted at Senator Gwen Margolis Park, 17815 North Bay Road. Registration fee and monthly dues required. Soccer, Pee Wee
(ages 4-6)
Participants will learn basic soccer fundamentals and skills through a variety of age appropriate exercises, drills and games. Share in the joy and excitement your player will display as they are exposed to experiences that are both rewarding and fun!

Soccer SEAS Clinic
(ages 6 – 14)
Competitive soccer coached by Southeast Atlantic Soccer League (SEAS). SEAS features seasonal recreational and competitive leagues for youth. To find out more please call Cultural & Community Services Department at 305.792.1706.

Volleyball: Recreational
(ages 10-14)
Instructional coed volleyball is offered for ages 10– 14. Instructional volleyball is designed to teach players the proper skills required to play organized volleyball. As players develop, matches may be coordinated through intra-murals, tournament, or league games. Practices are held twice weekly at Pelican Community Par, 18115 North Bay Road.
