Commissioner - George "Bud" Scholl

Biography
Bud Scholl was born in New Jersey and moved to South Florida at the age of five. He grew up in North Dade County in the Norwood section of town now known as Miami Gardens. There he attended neighborhood schools Parkway Elementary, Norland Junior and Norland Senior High School. He attended the University of Florida where he received an Engineering Degree in Computer Science. Bud and his wife of 25 years, Dione Del Monico, moved to then Sunny Isles, Atlantic Island 20 years ago. They have three children Sarah, Sebastian and Stedmen.

Since growing up in North Miami-Dade Bud has always exhibited a firm belief in community service and teaching his children the importance of community service has always been a strong motivator for his own involvement in the community. He has volunteered his time in numerous City of Sunny Isles Beach positions over the years serving as - Chairman of the Charter Revision Commission, a member of the City Manager’s Financial Advisory Committee, a member of the City Attorney’s Search Committee and a member of the City Manager’s Search Committee. At the time of becoming a City Commissioner he was serving as Chairman of the Long Range Planning and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee and Chairman of the Historic Preservation Board. He has been a vocal resident of his community regularly speaking out at Commission meetings on a variety of matters of importance to the shaping of our community.

In addition to his volunteer work and activism within our City, Bud has also volunteered his time for regional causes. He has served as the Chairman of the Board of the Community Blood Centers of Florida and has been a member of the Executive Board for over ten years. This year, upon the retirement of the former CEO, at the request of the Board of the CBCF Bud is serving as the interim CEO of the organization.  The CBCF is the not for profit organization that provides over 95% of the blood supply for the hospitals and medical community of Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. He has also served as a member of the Board of Commissioners MIS and Telecommunications Committee of Broward Health.

Bud Scholl has been an entrepreneur for most of his professional career, specializing in the restructuring and financing of companies in a variety of industries.  He has been an active investor in real estate, commercial and mortgage lending in South Florida for over twenty years.  He founded, served on the Board of Directors and as President of a commercial community bank. Bud also owns a multifaceted dry cleaning and laundry company. He purchased the assets of the then 42 store chain from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and successfully restructured the business. He is a past member of the Young Presidents Organization.
