The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is scheduled to begin a bridge rehabilitation project the week of January 9, 2017. The project limits extend along State Road (SR) A1A/Collins Avenue at Baker Haulover Cut Bridge in Miami-Dade County. The project will cost an estimated $8.9 million. The work will take roughly two years to be completed. The project includes the following:
- Cleaning and painting all structural steel
- Repairing deteriorated concrete elements such as deck and columns
- Strengthening selected bridge members such as beams
- Replacing bridge bearings and seawalls
To build this project safely, it will be necessary to periodically close lanes. Most of the work will take place under the bridge. Some areas of sidewalk and access roads under the bridge may be temporarily closed during the work. Construction will be done in stages to minimize impacts to the public during special events and peak periods of traffic. The FDOT will make sure traffic continues to flow safely through the work zones.
Please note that this schedule may change due to bad weather or other unexpected conditions.
Commuters traveling through Sunny Isles Beach may want to consider using US-1/Biscayne Blvd. or I-95 as an alternate route, as these periodic lane closures will effect traffic flow through Sunny Isles Beach. Drivers are encouraged to call 511 before they travel or log on to www.fl511.com to get real-time traffic and lane closure information. You may also check www.sibfl.net/alerts for our most up to date lane closure information and alerts.
