City of Sunny Isles Logo

January 5, 2004
By Commissioner Lewis Thaler

Let me wish all of you a healthy and prosperous new year from both Mrs. Thaler (Madi) and myself.

Keeping you up to date about Sunny Isles Beach, our new bus will be arriving shortly. We will be able to implement a change on the very dangerous turn-around for buses at 193rd Street in the near future, providing we add morning and afternoon stops at the Aventura Mall on Biscayne.

New bathrooms at 192nd Street, next to Ocean II are about to be opened, as is the walkway to the beach. A volleyball court has been installed in the park at 194th Street in Golden Shores.

Did you know that over 1500 children live in Sunny Isles Beach and attend schools in surrounding areas? We are looking into establishing a public or a charter school in our City.

Stamped asphalt brick walkways for the rest of the City should be completed by year-end. The newspaper vending machines now have telephone numbers in case you have any trouble getting your newspaper or change.

It is time for you to "homestead" if you haven't already done so. It must be done by March 3, 2003 so don't delay. If you have any questions or need more information please call City Hall 305-947-0606.

Many of you who have attended our workshop meetings and monthly meetings have praised the new format. Thanks to Mayor Norman S. Edelcup, our residents are learning what is happening in their city. He has stopped to explain the different phrases and how they impact the decisions being discussed and made. We are very happy to see you, and please remember that I am in City Hall, 17070 Collins Avenue, Suite 250, most days and/or available by phone. I look forward to hearing from you.
