Officer Joe Alvarez Sunny Isles Beach Officer of the Month

"Concerned, considerate and soft spoken" are words used to describe Officer of the Month, Joe Alvarez, of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department. He was a veteran of 12 years with the Hialeah Police Department prior to coming to Sunny Isles Beach where he will celebrate his 5th year anniversary here.

Officer Alvarez is not flashy, or an attention seeker, but quietly does his job - even content to let others take the credit or be in the spotlight. He is just happy being a police officer, doing his job and serving the citizens of this fair city. Chief Maas likened Officer Alvarez to "the person in every organization who quietly, effectively and dependably gets the job done. He is a person you rely upon, who shows up for work regularly, gets his assignments, does his job, and is rarely heard from."

Joe Alvarez has the respect and appreciation of the other officers, exemplified by the attendance at the funeral service for his father who passed away recently. Joe has often been available to others in their time of need and on this occasion his fellow officers returned the caring gestures with love and respect.

Officer Alvarez is also married to Kathy and has two children that keep him busy in his off-duty time. He enjoys his weekend shifts with the Marine Patrol, and when he has a chance to be on the water for fun he is a salt-water fisherman.
