News for the New Year from the Sunny Isles Beach Branch Library

As we start the New Year it’s important for the staff at the Sunny Isles Beach Branch Library to take a look back to see how far we have come in serving the patrons of this beautiful city. For nearly two years, the Sunny Isles Beach Branch Library has been expanding its level of service and attention to accommodate the needs and interests of our residents and visitors. We have also seen a lot more of you walking through our doors and hope that for those of you who haven’t visited you will add coming to the library has part of your 2007 resolutions! In these few short years, the number of materials that have been checked out have nearly tripled! Back in the summer of 2005, the Sunny Isles Beach Branch Library checked out less than 6,000 items per month to library patrons - not bad for a new facility. But, it hardly compares with our circulation of nearly 16,000 items this fall. We expect more people to check out materials in January and February because of the busy winter season.

If you have had the opportunity to participate in any of our exciting library programs you may have seen an increase in attendance as well the assortment of programs to choose from. Our very popular Toddler Time program, which is held on Monday mornings, has more than thirty moms and tots. The program is so popular that participants have “outgrown” the Children’s Area and now meet in the meeting room to accommodate all participants. We knew we hit it big with our “Accent Reduction” classes, which started in December 2005. These classes continue to draw approximately 25 people each Wednesday night. Our computer classes and Book Club bring in 10-12 people a month.

Starting this month, the Sunny Isles Beach Branch will be offering classes in Basic Spanish on Tuesday nights at 6:00 pm as well as monthly Tai Chi Classes.

We want 2007 to be even bigger and we want to meet you too, so please try one of these programs or let us know what interests you have and we will do our best to accommodate you.
