“Sunny Isles Beach Detective Wins Segal Award for Investigative Excellence”

The prestigious Segal Award presented for Investigative Excellence was awarded to Sunny Isles Beach Police Detective William “Billy” Howell in December, 2005.

The award that symbolizes determination, integrity of investigation, perseverance and quality work is presented to the officer or detective that most represents the qualities aforementioned. The award is made possible by the support and generosity of Glenn and Daryl Segal who created the award dating back to 2000. Sergeants Ray Atesiano and Eddie Santiago of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department were the first recipients of the Award and were actually the catalyst behind it. The Segal Family are well known supporters of law enforcement and police charities in the South Florida area.

Detective Howell is a veteran of the police department and is detached to the local office of the F.B.I. for proactive, long term investigations. Howell has completed several successful investigations specializing in insurance fraud.

Detective Howell was presented his award at a recent gathering at the police station and his name appears on the memorial plaque in the police station lobby.

Detective Howell is not the only law enforcement person in the household. He is accompanied by his wife Ana, a crime scene and evidence specialist for Aventura Police Department. In their spare time, the Howell’s enjoy raising their three children. Ana Howell was recently awarded the civilian employee of the year for the Aventura Police Department and so we are very proud of the entire Howell Family and extend our congratulations to all!
