Co-honorees for Sunny Isles
Beach Officer of the Month
Lynda Peeler
Officer Ray Atesiano has before been celebrated as Sunny Isles Beach Officer
of the Month, as has Detective Michael Mulvey. Detective Mulvey's exemplary dedication
and thorough work reached acclaim outside our ranks when he was honored two years
ago as Top Cop in the Nation.
The efforts that bring these two fine officers of the law to this honor began
on September 4, 2003 when one of the local hotels executive offices was burglarized,
losing valuable computer and audiovisual equipment. The owner's worst fear centered
around the
permanent loss of valuable files.
When the original report was written it was undetermined how the perpetrators
gained entry to the premises, but there was a surveillance camera that after
hours of reviewing Detective
Mulvey was able to secure images of two unknown suspects. He created a flyer
for all police personnel, and as Chief Maas said, "Bingo" - enter Officer Atesiano
who recognized the image of one of suspects as a resident of the city who he
had encountered before.
Mulvey used this information to carry on a neighborhood search for the suspect.
Locating the, now two, suspects, a subsequent arrest was made with full confessions
to the crime.
Better news yet was the stolen property was retrieved and returned to the hotel.
The owners were astonished and could not express enough gratitude for the effort
and professionalism these two officers. Detective Mulvey took the extra step
to do a crime
prevention analysis of the business to help prevent future crime.
This case exhibits teamwork, effective communication and sharing of information
to get the job done with efficiency. For this and much more Officer Atesiano
and Detective Mulvey are celebrated as our Sunny Isles Beach Police Department
Officers of the Month.
Congratulations to you both.
