thirty years of public service
Lynda Peeler
The thirty year celebration of service by Senator Gwen Margolis was to a sold-out
house; everyone gathering to give homage to this person who has worked with diligence
and care for the people of her district for all these years.
Senator Gwen Margolis thanked the Concerned Citizens for electing her to office
and for the accolades they have given her over the years. This was followed by
a video of some of the highlights of this illustrious career. Here she was portrayed
by her Tallahassee
constituents as a woman of courage who served on 14 committees, and upon completing
her tenure on the Community and Consumer Affairs Committee was applauded for
her leadership. Determination and stamina, whether to her work in real estate,
or to her work
for her community, she has done all with concern and caring. As Senator Margolis
was about to be made President of the Senate, she was passionately supported
with words such as ".fortitude, drive and decisiveness. Senator Margolis has
proven her metal when put to the test. She can lead, she can fight, she can win.
With strong fair leadership she will challenge.motivate..and she will not ask
us to give what she will not give of herself." "This term of leadership will
not be the same as in years gone by. . The good old boys of the senate. now make
room for Gwen Margolis." And they did.
Senator Margolis has always fought for education, rights of the elderly, and
most recently had initiated an assault on childhood obesity.
Many from the community brought awards for the Senator, some include: North Miami
Beach presented by Jacqueline Smith, Council Woman; Mayor Edelcup presented a
plaque from Sunny Isles Beach; and the Aventura Commission was represented by
Jay Beskin.
Senator Margolis said she wanted to thank so many of her colleagues and members
of councils of the thirty cities she represents from Palmetto Bay to Hollywood. "You
have all
been a guiding light. There was never a time when I was in Tallahassee that I
didn't know what you thought. Thirty years is a long time to deal with the kinds
of issues I have. I look forward to continuing to work for children and the elderly
of this community."
Officers of the Month, Detective Michael Mulvey and Officer Ray Atesiano were
honored for their successful effort in investigating, searching for and apprehending
the perpetrators of a robbery of a hotel. In addition to apprehending the thieves,
the equipment was located and returned to the hotel.
