From the desk of the Vice Mayor
By Vice Mayor Lewis
J. Thaler
As many of you are
aware, we have been busy moving in to the beautiful new Government Center
on Collins
Avenue and 180th Street next to Tony
Roma’s Restaurant. The official ribbon cutting ceremony will
be on February 25th at 2:00 p.m. and you are all invited. Join us for
the dedication of the David Samson Commission Chambers and take a tour
of the beautiful building. Remember we, the Commission, are always
available for you. We welcome your calls or visits.
On Sunday, January
30th, our brand new lifeguard stand on 192nd Street was staffed and
opened. The
other two new lifeguard stands will be operating
in the near future. This makes five lifeguard stands that will be maintained
by Sunny Isles Beach. Please pay attention to the flags that will be
flying from the stands. They are put out for your safety. Red indicates
DANGEROUS AND STRONG CURRENTS (NO SWIMMING). Yellow indicates MODERATE
SURF AND/OR RIP CURRENTS. Use extreme caution. Green indicates CALM CONDITION.
Enjoy the surf. Purple indicates DANGEROUS MARINE LIFE, i.e. jellyfish,
man of war, sting rays. Yellow with black stripes indicates STRONG RIP
CURRENTS – NO SWIMMING.
Sunny Isles Beach has started putting in new uniformed street lights
at 158th Street and 174th Street. Eventually all our streets in the City
will have these new lights.
Due to some complaints about dogs running freely on the beach, on January
29th the City started patrolling the beach and issuing warnings. Remember
dogs are not allowed on the beaches at any time.
Just a reminder, March 1st is the deadline for you to homestead and
get your $25,000 exemption. Call City Hall for information. Our phone
number is the same 305.947.0606. And remember you can call or stop off
and see me on the fourth floor of the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center.
