We will always remember…
Trip to Holocaust exhibit
By Commissioner Roslyn Brezin
There are no words to describe the emotions felt by more than 1,000 people who attended the World War II Rail Car unveiling on Tuesday, February 13, 2007. The City of Sunny Isles Beach provided three buses to transport the citizens attending this event at the Broward Convention Center.
More than 100 residents from Sunny Isles Beach including myself and many Holocaust survivors listened to the presentations such as Our Legacy of Remembrance by Rositta Kenigsberg, Executive Vice President of the Holocaust Documentation and Education Center, who is the daughter of a Holocaust survivor.
Father Pat O’Neill of the Archdiocese of Miami said “We will always remember.”
Leo Shniderman spoke about the Rail Car experience. He told about husbands and wives, children, young mothers with babies who stood for hours on a hot August day to be loaded like cattle into a rail car like the one before us. He described the unbelievable suffering in that car, where the only facility was two buckets; where they had no food or fresh air, where so many died. When they reached their destination, families were separated; mothers were told to leave their babies and march on if they wanted to live.
No, we will never forget what the survivors went through.

In March of 2004 the City of Sunny Isles Beach had a program by Mayor Norman S. Edelcup to honor them. We are so proud of our friends and neighbors here that survived this horror. They have achieved so much and know that although there is a time for tears and remembrance, this is their time to enjoy life in our beautiful city where they now reside and to participate in the wonderful programs and celebrations we have. I look forward to seeing you there.
Your Commissioner Roslyn Brezin.
