S.I.B. Police Sgt. Bobby Randazzo
and Officer Joe Alvarez Win L.E.O. Awards for 2005…
More than 700
people gathered for the 5th annual Law Enforcement Awards for Dade
County on Saturday, February 26, 2005, at the Sheraton Hotel in Miami.
The formal black tie event continues to grow and become more popular
and more successful every year. This was the largest gathering of any
of the previous 4 years. Even John Walsh, host of the popular American
Most Wanted attended the event and addressed the crowd with an inspirational
message to keep up the fight.
And in the end, two SIB police officers came away with the prestigious
award for their category. Both men were recognized for their heroic efforts
in the area of marine patrol and water safety. The marine patrol unit
for Sunny Isles Beach is an integral part of the community and their
safety. On two separate occasions, Marine Patrol Officers saved lives
thru their quick response and heroic efforts in battling a fiery inferno
aboard a yacht and for their rescue of two pilots who crash landed their
plane into the bay.
The competition gets tougher every year and that is why their accomplishment
stands out even more. On behalf of the Police Department, City Commission
and City Staff, we congratulate both of these fine officers.
