Cecile Sippin Beach Access Dedication
By Commissioner Roslyn Brezin

Commissioner Roslyn BrezinIf you compare the life of our city to that of a human being, Cecile Sippin was like a parent watching over a child. Cecile was there at every stage:

Birth – when we incorporated.
Early childhood – when we elected the first commission, established a police department, a city hall and staff.
The Teen Years – when we proceeded with zoning, code enforcement, ordinances, resolutions, and etc.

She loved her city and wrote and spoke about what she felt would be best for everyone.

Cecile attended commission meetings and was well informed. She was highly respected for voicing her opinion whether or not it was the popular thing to do. Cecile, Lee Liebman and I worked together as political activists.

Cecile, a long-time resident of the city, recently passed away after a long illness. On February 23, 2007 the City dedicated a beach access in her name.

I loved her and admired her. Cecile knew about her well-deserved honor in naming the Cecile Sippin Beach Access. The City of Sunny Isles Beach will go on, and she will always be remembered.

(L-R) Commissioners Roslyn Brezin and Gerry Goodman, Vice Mayor Lewis J. Thaler, Cecile Sippin’s husband Gerald cutting ribbon, Mayor Norman S. Edelcup, the Sippin family members and friends (in the back)
