March Update
By Vice Mayor
Lewis J. Thaler
With the beautiful new Government Center now opened, Sunny Isles Beach has
really become the” showcase” of Miami-Dade. Approximately 600
people attended the opening of the new city hall and the ribbon cutting
dedication of the Commission Chambers to the late Mayor David Samson. If
you were unable to attend or to take the tour of the building, please come
to visit us. We will be proud to show you YOUR Government Center!
We have refined the
recycling regulations of waste for all the buildings so that everyone
should
know what to do with their newspapers and cans
and bottles. Letters will be sent to each building explaining the procedure.
The police and beach personnel are reinforcing the” no dogs on
beach” law. First warnings have been issued and citations will
be given to those ignoring the law.
The fourth lifeguard stand is now open and is located at 180th street.
Please look for the flags to see the conditions of the water. Signs are
posted on the lifeguard stands explaining the different colors. Become
familiar with them. Remember we want everyone to be safe and to enjoy
all that Sunny Isles Beach offers.
For your information-
I am sure you have been asked this question many times (I know I have)-“how big is the Sunny Isles Beach?” The
answer is” 2.4 miles long from the north boundary, 195th Street
to the south boundary of 155th Street. We have approximately 610 acres
of land or two square miles over all. The population as of April 2004
is estimated to be 16,500 people and still growing.
Remember to come and visit your new Government Center and receive a
memento from the opening.
Madi and I wish you all a very happy holiday season
