Sunny Isles Beach Trips the Light Fantastic

On March 19, 2006 another successful event was added to the achievements of the Community Activities and Health Committee. About 300 people attended the 2nd Annual Dance Contest at the Marco Polo Hotel.

Event Chairman Henry Kay professionally organized the affair and was superb as Master of Ceremonies. Honey Scriff, Committee Chairperson, along with Committee Members, Spiro Colivas and Joseph Ades were on hand with city staff and volunteers to assist with hosting the event. The audience enjoyed watching the contestants and forming their own opinion as to which ones they thought the judges would select as the winners.

Prizes to the winners were donated by: Trump Sonesta Beach Resort, Newport Beachside Resort, Peppermill Restaurant, Tony Roma’s Restaurant, Fish Joynt Restaurant, La Paloma Restaurant and Lounge, Blake Roses, Lilli’s Beauty Center, and Global Rehab. We thank all of our sponsors for contributing to the success of this event.

Winners of these fabulous prizes in the Open division were as follows: Nestler & Sidonia Stark won first place in the American Open and second place in the Latin Open; Arlene & Buddy Flitman won second place in the American Open; Andy & Santa Pompei won third place in the American Open and second place in the Hustle Open; Charles Poladian & Josephine Occhipinti won third place in the Latin Open and first place in the Hustle Open. Peter Gratohvil & Marie Eshgie won second place in the Latin Open, third place in the Hustle Open and the grand prize winner of the Overall Open category, a weekend for 2 at the Trump Sonesta Beach Resort.

Winners of the Sunny Isles Beach division were; Sharon Zysman and Barouch Anteby won third place in the Americen, Latin, and Hustle. Arthur Cotto and Kathy Hogue won second place in the American, Latin, and Hustle. Marie Mason and Mr. Lubart won first place in all three dance categories and were the grand prize winners for the Overall Sunny Isles Beach category, a weekend for 2 at the Newport Beachside Resort.

Congratulations to all of the winners and thank you for participating. Your elegant dancing provided much of the entertainment of the event.

During intermission the music continued to allow everyone to dance. This was followed by fabulous ballroom dance exhibitions performed by last year’s dance contest winners Vic and Vi, as well as others including; Andy & Santa, Elena & Edouard, Jean Claude & Robin.

The Committee is already hard at work preparing for their next event, a Multicultural Festival scheduled for Sunday, June 4, 2006.
