Catch The Wave!
New City Shuttle Bus Makes It's Debut in Sunny Isles Beach

By Susan Simpson, Cultural & Human Services Director

Susan SimpsonCultural event participants who attended the ballet Giselle on Saturday, January 24, 2004 were the first passengers to enjoy the city's latest addition to their fleet of buses. The group of 20 comfortably rode in the spacious 26 passenger bus as it made its way to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts for an evening of culture. A luxurious chariot with the city's name proudly emblazoned on both sides.

The City of Sunny Isles Beach is excited about its long awaited new community shuttle bus that is a 32-foot, Glaval Bus with a Ford E550 diesel engine. The plush city logo embroidered seats face forward for a more comfortable ride and can hold up to 26 passengers and up to 2 wheelchairs. It is equipped with seat belts for the safety of our passengers as well as an industrial air conditioning unit for their comfort.

The new bus with distinctive markings advertising the city of Sunny Isles Beach. The bus' unique shade of blue can be spotted around the city as it has joined our fleet on our regular shuttle route. But be warned, this new bus is not capable of accommodating the metal shopping carts that the old buses could. The safer, more comfortable forward facing seats do not allow the carts to pass down the aisle. Therefore, if you have a shopping cart, please plan to use the smaller, white buses that have the perimeter seating. This will insure that the new bus will not be damaged.

Passengers of all ages can now ride comfortably in the front-facing seats.A minor route change has been implemented for easier travel throughout our small city. The buses will no longer travel directly through the 170th Street and 180th Street shopping plazas. It will instead stop in front of the plaza on Collins Avenue within easy walking distance of those shops as well as City Hall and the Police Department. In addition, the bus will not travel inside of Plaza of the Americas as this has always been a dangerous maneuver for the buses. Instead it will pick up passengers waiting along North Bay Road. Please call City Hall if you need more information.

So 'catch the wave' on the city's new shuttle and enjoy a carefree ride to your favorite local destination or join us for a cultural event and enjoy an evening out without the hassles of driving and parking.
