Sunny Isles Beach Offers Free Round
Trip Transportation to Mount Sinai Medical Center for Residents
By Susan Simpson, Cultural & Human Services Director
On April 3, 2006 the city of Sunny Isles Beach, in coordination with Mount Sinai Medical Center, kicked off a free transportation program that provides Sunny Isles Beach residents with free transportation to and from Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach.
It was a festive occasion as Mayor Norman Edelcup, the force behind this service, cut the ribbon for the inaugural trip starting at Winston Towers 200 building at 7:30 a.m. In attendance with him from the city were Vice Mayor Roslyn Brezin and City Manager, John Szerlag. Mount Sinai was well represented with several staff members including Drew Landmeier, Charlene Welker and Jared Smith. Resident and advocate for the free program, Irving Diamond, was the first to check out the bus and assist with the ribbon cutting.
This program is on a 3-month trial basis. With adequate use, it is expected to continue annually. The program offers free transportation 3 days per week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The cost of the service is divided equally with Mount Sinai Medical Center who utilizes half of the seats for their patient authorized visits.
Reservations are required at least 24 hours in advance for all transportation services including those in wheelchairs. To make a reservation, have a schedule mailed to you or for additional information, please call the Cultural and Human Services Department at 305.792.1706.
