Do Not Park on the Grass - Warning Periods Ends April 25, 2005
By Robert C. Solera, Assistant Administrator Building & Code Enforcement and Licensing Department

An ordinance that prohibits the parking of vehicles on lawns in the residential district is now in effect in order to promote citywide beautification. This ordinance will also regulate the parking of vehicles on publicly maintained properties.

In an effort to allow the residents to become familiar with this new Ordinance, the Code Enforcement and Licensing Department will be distributing flyers advising residents of the grace period (which ends April 25, 2005) and providing them with a copy of the Ordinance. As a courtesy, the Department will begin giving warnings to residents who violate this Ordinance before issuing a Civil Violation Notice.

It is the expectation of the Department that all residents make the most of the grace period by ensuring that they take the time to establish that not only their household is in compliance but, also their renters/occupants and visitors are too. The Department will strongly enforce this issue once the grace period ends.

On the other hand, the Building Department (305.947.2150) will be available to all owners and residents to answer any questions in reference to the construction and development of driveways on private property. It is important to note that a permit is required prior to the construction of a driveway even if the owner is creating the driveway to comply with the ordinance.

The joint efforts of the City Commission and of those residents who wish to beautify the City are beginning to come to fruition. If we all work together, all residential areas will be even more attractive and our City will continue effectively moving forward towards citywide beautification.

If you have any questions or concerns in reference to this issue please contact the Code Enforcement and Licensing Department at 305.957.1305.
