Local Rabbi Installed as Police Chaplain...
By Chief Fred Maas

On Thursday, March 18, 2004, Rabbi Mayer Abramowitz was officially installed by Police Chief Fred Maas with the approval of City Manager Chris Russo, as an official chaplain of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department. Rabbi Abramowitz was introduced at the City Commission meeting to both City Officials and residents of Sunny Isles Beach. He is currently the standing Rabbi for Temple B'nai Zion in the City.

That is where the role of the Police Chaplain, regardless of faith or denomination comes in. In a critical situation he may be summoned by the police department, at any hour to administer or support or just be there for the victim.

Rabbi Abramowitz certainly fits the role of a leader, both humanly and spiritually. He, along with his outfit, took over concentration camps. This Rabbi not only ministered to both his soldiers and displaced persons, but he also joined a group of young Palestinian Jews who secretly helped Jewish survivors get to Palestine. For his activities in their behalf, the Unites States Department cited him as "Liberator of the Holocaust."

Rabbi Abramowitz joins the Reverend Thomas Honold Pastor of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church who is also an official police Chaplain, ministering to the Police Department and Community. On behalf of the Police Department of Sunny Isles Beach and its residents, this Community Welcomes Rabbi Abramowitz!!!
