Your Fire Rescue Department
By Division Chief Dave Downey
The
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department (MDFR) is the largest fire rescue service in
the southeastern United States. The department operates out of 55 fire stations
strategically located across the county. MDFR provides emergency services to
33 cities and villages as well as all areas of unincorporated Miami-Dade County.
The department employs nearly 2,000 personnel and has an annual budget of over
$200 million dollars.
MDFR provides not only state-of-the-art fire suppression and emergency medical
care but also provides full-time hazardous materials and technical-rescue response.
MDFR firefighters not only provide outstanding service within our community,
they respond at a moment's notice to assist other communities around the globe
during their time of need. MDFR is nationally and internationally renowned as
a leader in the fire service. Most importantly, the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department
is your fire rescue department. It should give you comfort in knowing that when
disaster strikes, your firefighters are the best trained, equipped, and experienced
to render aid.
As the Division Chief of Operations for northern Miami-Dade County, I am your
local point of contact. My office is located at 2270 NE Miami Gardens Drive.
My staff includes Administrative Chief Fire Officer Christine Rogers and Administrative
Secretary Pam Williams. My division oversees the operation of 16 stations within
4 battalions covering an area from the county line to the City of Miami.
I am a 21-year veteran of the fire service and started my career as a firefighter
with the City of Sunrise in Broward County. As a member of MDFR, I have spent
almost my entire career in north Miami-Dade working out of stations in Carol
City, Aventura, Miami Shores, and West Little River. I feel at home in this area
and understand the importance of community involvement. I am committed to getting
out and meeting all of the municipal leaders in my jurisdiction and believe that
your neighborhood fire station should be involved in the community it serves.
I want to be available to you. Feel free to call my office @ 305-932-6820 or
e-mail me at downeyd@miamidade.gov whenever you have a question or concern. I
promise you that I will address your needs. I am looking forward to improving
our community partnership and making sure you get everything you need from your
fire department.
