Design a T-shirt Contest for school-age children

To celebrate the City’s 10 th Year Anniversary in June 2007, the City is promoting a Design a T-shirt Contest for students living in Sunny Isles Beach. Young artists, in kindergarten – twelfth grade, are invited to submit entries to the Sunny Isles Beach Branch Library by April 30, 2007.

The theme for this contest is ‘My Fave @ the Beach,’ and children are invited to create a design for a t-shirt by drawing a picture of their favorite ‘beachy’ thing in Sunny Isles Beach, such as: fish, a lifeguard, boat, the beach, etc.

Entries will be separated by grade levels, K – 5, 6 – 8, 9 – 12, and judged by a panel based on originality and best interpretation of the theme. One winner will be chosen in each of the three grade categories and the design will be reproduced on t-shirts.

Winners will be announced at the Family Fun Festival, an evening event scheduled for 6:30 – 9:00 p.m., Friday, June 15, 2007 at the Senator Gwen Margolis Park. T-shirts with the winning designs will be given to those in attendance. Three winners will each receive a ‘fabulous’ prize.

Children can learn more by attending a free workshop led by contemporary artist, Clara Poupel, at the Sunny Isles Beach Branch Library. Only one workshop remains, and that is for students in grades 9 – 12, on Saturday, April 21, 2007, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. To register for this workshop, call the Sunny Isles Beach Branch Library at 305.682.0726. Space is limited. Attend a workshop or not; just submit your entry to the Sunny Isles Beach Library by the deadline on April 30, 2007.

• Create a design for a t-shirt by drawing a picture of your favorite ‘beachy’ thing in Sunny Isles Beach: fish, waves, lifeguard, boat, beach umbrella, pier, etc.
• Participants must be in kindergarten – 12 th grade and a resident of Sunny Isles Beach.
• Entry must be an original design created by the participant.
• Entry must be in color on white paper, 8½”x11”.
• One entry per child.
• All entries must be returned to the Sunny Isles Beach Branch Library, 18070 Collins Avenue by Monday, April 30, 2007.
• Entries will be separated by grade level (K-5, 6-8, 9-12) and judged by a panel based on originality and best interpretation of the theme.
• One winner will be chosen in each of the three grade categories; each winning design will be reproduced on its own t-shirt.
• Winners will be announced at the Family Fun Fest, Friday, June 15, 2007.

All entries become the property of the City of Sunny Isles Beach.
