From the desk of Lewis J. Thaler
By Vice Mayor Lewis J. Thaler
Sunny Isles Beach now has its own postage stamp!! You can purchase them at City Hall from the Cultural and Human Services Department on the first floor. The stamps come on a sheet of twenty stamps and cost $13.00; and half-sheets of ten stamps cost $6.50. For more information, call 305.792.1706.
The calls have been coming in, asking when the “Wi-Fi” will be on-line. We believe that the whole system will be completed by the end of 2008. The first phase should be in place by the middle of 2008. That includes the first three floors of all buildings and condos in the city and all one and two story family homes.
The Active Park on 181 Street, now called The Pelican Park, will be ready by September 2007 at a cost of approximately $9 million. Approximately $350,000 came from Miami-Dade County and $8.5 million came from Sunny Isles Beach. The Sunny Isles Beach School at 182 Street will cost approximately $64 million, of which the City will pay 12.5 million and Miami-Dade will pay the remainder.
Remember, Sunny Isles Beach is having its 10 th Anniversary celebration from June 14 through June 16. The Committee has been working very hard to make this time a fun time for all. There will be folk dancers from our city of Netanya on Thursday (remember to call City Hall to reserve your ticket which is free), a contest that is now going on at our library to pick the best t-shirt design that represents our City (stop by the library for more information), games and entertainment for the whole family on Friday. And on Saturday, from 5 pm to 9 pm, there will be food and entertainment at both parks, Town Center Park and Samson Oceanfront Park. Keep watching Channel 77 or read the Sunny Isles Beach newspaper for more information
