‘In the News’
By Bari Auerbach
If you believe in the “domino effect,” then you’ll especially appreciate how issues in the news today can have an impact on daily life right here in Sunny Isles Beach...
The Anna Nicole saga
As a result of all the extensive media coverage of Anna Nicole’s untimely death, some people contacted news stations complaining about how TV shows were preempted for coverage of the funeral and court proceedings. Here in Sunny Isles Beach, the interruptions were especially annoying considering residents were riveted to weather reports forecasting perpetually sunny skies. Thankfully, they could tune into the SIB TV cable channel 77 – always on 24/7 and commercial free!
Real estate trends
News about downward trends in the South Florida real estate market have only served to highlight good news about the Sunny Isles Beach development boom, proving “If you build a better condo/hotel where everyone wants to live and visit – they will come!”
Property tax proposals
As the Florida Legislature continues to consider eliminating property taxes and raising the sales tax, Sunny Isles Beach could serve as the “model city” exemplifying the scope of municipal services residents wouldn’t want to see diminished. In fact, some think it would be a great idea to make a pilgrimage to Tallahassee in a Sunny Isles Beach shuttle bus filled with prototypes of enhanced landscaping and lighting, vigilant police officers, Sunny Serenade concert musicians and little league baseball players going to bat for community parks and recreation programs.
Hurricane season
The ’07 hurricane season is almost upon us – but this year Sunny Isles Beach is more prepared than ever before. In addition to newly adopted ordinances regulating unsafe structures and repairs, everyone is endorsing a resolution prohibiting any storms from ever hitting within city limits...Just in case, make sure you stock up on supplies including water, batteries, candles - and plenty of suntan lotion since the weather surely won’t defy code enforcement officers ready to impose fines for anything but sunny skies through November!
America votes
Having your say seems to be all the rage as shows like American Idol and Dancing with the Stars encourage the American public to cast their votes for favorite singers and dancers....Now this interactive approach may make its way to Sunny Isles Beach, where residents and visitors could be called upon to voice their opinions about a myriad of crucial issues.
For example: Vote for whether or not you’d prefer your Rascal House bagel with butter or cream cheese...Vote for your favorite addition coming to Town Center Park - restrooms or the swing set...Vote for what you’d like to see more of – nude beaches or bathing suits with a lot more coverage based on “the supersizing of America!”
..And so, if it’s “in the news,” odds are the ramifications can hit home. After all, when forecasters predicted weather so cold it could freeze Easter eggs in many parts of the country, you can bet the Sunny Isles Beach Resort Association just loved where snow bunnies were hopping planes to!
