Justin Broman, Lead Lifeguard, SIB Ocean RescueSpring break is here and lifeguards have their hands full in Sunny Isles Beach. We are going up and down the beach making preventions, enforcing codes and ordinances, jumping in the rough ocean making rip current rescues and going on medical and trauma calls, and every now and then looking for missing persons. The police department is always there backing us up on all of these calls. It’s a great feeling when you’re coming in from a rescue and officers are already on the scene.

The lifeguards in Sunny Isles Beach are very well equipped to perform their duties. We have five towers, five ATV’s fully loaded with rescue boards, rescue buoys first aid, and oxygen. We have four Jet Ski’s with rescue sleds and most importantly, we have lifeguards that are EMTs and medics. The lifeguards here are prepared for anything that happens on land or in the sea along our coastline.

Our main objective is to make sure our residents and visitors have the feeling of a secure and safe environment while enjoying our beautiful beaches. For us to be prepared at all times, we are continuously water training, working out, practicing all types of medical scenarios, training on our jet skis and fine tuning all of our skills. So come out to the beach and have fun, and for your safety, always swim near a lifeguard.
