“City Commission Rewards All the Team Members…”
By Chief Fred Maas
In an unprecedented move, Mayor Norman S. Edelcup, the City Commission and new City Manager A. John Szerlag, recognized the entire winning team from the Motor/Traffic Unit by presenting each officer with his own prestigious Law Enforcement Officer (L.E.O.) Award.
On Saturday, February 18, 2006, the unit was
awarded the distinguished trophy at the annual gala dinner. Unit supervisor Ken Hackett accepted on behalf of the team. But because of the tremendous effort, work ethic and accomplishments of the unit, the Mayor, Commission and City Manager saw fit to award each one individually, their own statuette. What an awesome display of support, gratitude and advocation of team unity and spirit.
When first told of the idea, most members of the unit were in disbelief. They were so proud as a team and now they were being rewarded individually for their hard work.
The Mayor and City Manager were on hand to present the awards at a roll call presentation in front of their colleagues. Even the other officers appreciate the efforts of the unit who handle most traffic enforcement so that it allows patrol officers to focus on their job.
Those members of the unit receiving their personal L.E.O. awards were:
Officer Steve Hamedl
Officer Javier Estevez
Officer Stephen Brenton
Officer Yohans Martinez
Officer Thao Doan
Congratulations to all and thanks to our Commissioners and City Manager for their continued support.
