Life in the City
‘Condo Bored?’
By Bari Auerbach
Are you sitting up in your condo feeling bored? If so, it’s time to discover all the fun, exciting, novel and entertaining things you can do right here in Sunny Isles Beach!
This Morning
Have a really big breakfast at The Rascal House and then go to Miami Beach Fitness to burn off all the calories! Then rush to Government Center to get in line to buy the new Sunny Isles Beach postage stamps before they’re all sold out. When you get home, send as many letters as you can to all your friends so they can see the new stamp featuring the city seal and wish they too could call “Florida’s Riviera” home.
This Afternoon
Go by as many stores as you can to see the new signs complying with the city’s new sign code ordinance. (Since TV’s and computer monitors are also being allowed to be part of window sign displays, you can be mesmerized by the visual promotions too!)
Visit one of the city’s parks and appreciate the green space even though Earth Day was on April 22. Then challenge your friends to see if they can name all the parks already established or coming soon to Sunny Isles Beach. (So you’re in the know – here’s the answer key: Samson Oceanfront Park, Sen. Gwen Margolis Park, Town Center Park, Pier Park, Golden Shores Park and coming soon – Pelican Park and Heritage Park).
This Evening
Have dinner at one of the many fine restaurants in Sunny Isles Beach including the ultra-exclusive ones now open in the luxurious new condo/hotels along the east side of Collins Avenue. Then again, you could always just go to Burger King or KFC – and spend the money you save on the taxes you owe!
Go for a stroll along Collins Avenue and try to count all the cars while trying to ascertain whether the majority of the traffic is being generated by commuters passing through or residents trying to make it home before the Jay Leno show starts.
Any Time
Walk to the beach and stay all day realizing people still freezing in other parts of the country can only envy the warm, sunny weather you enjoy... Just tell your boss you need to take an extended leave of absence so you can have a leading role in the video the city will soon be filming to promote paradise in Sunny Isles Beach.
Just when you thought the saying, “Shhhh!” was reserved for the librarian at the public library branch in Government Center, you can develop a heightened appreciation for going anywhere in the city any time. Ultimate “peace and quiet” will now surely prevail thanks to new noise and nuisance ordinances recently passed by the City Commission. Warning: Don’t shout “Hooray!” too loud or the code enforcement officers may fine you!
