Mother's Day and Remembrance
Her name
was Lillian, a mother, grandmother and a great-grandmother. Because
she articulated a philosophy of living that was worthy of remembrance,
that was so uplifting, fundamentally different and positive, that people
even today remember her greatness and significance.
Her life deserves our reflection and focus because she articulated a
philosophy of life worthy of remembering and imitations. What were these
worthy values of this mother? Throughout her 86 years of life, she sought
family, values and family living as essential to her life’s challenges.
She was one of ten children, her mother died when she was young and she
assumed within her family the role of Matriarch, a role that she never
gave up and fulfilled with honor, strength and dignity. Though her entire
life she took it upon herself to keep the family together. How did she
do it? First, by loving people on their own terms. She created a special
relationship with each member of the family, a large family. Second,
she was a woman who understood the notion of hospitality. The doors of
her home were always open to friends, to family members and neighbors.
She was a woman who took her culinary acrobatics very seriously. Her
food was legendary.
What was the key to the sense of family beyond the spirit of love?
She believed there was nothing more important in life than to pursue
peace within her family. She saw the good in people, not bad. She found
reasons to love and accept.
Can there be any grater example of family love and devotion then the
fact that this wonderful mother helped create a lasting family institution.
She was an accomplished businesswoman who started one of the first supermarket
chains in Florida. She also worked in the banking business and many other
organizations. But even her business experience did not reflect all the
specialness of her life. She was a modern woman who deeply acknowledged,
and was involved in the affairs of the world. She was an avid writer
to world figures.
She had a deep uncompromising love and affection for our former President
Jimmy Carter, and who practically became her pen pal.
Why such a strong political commitment? Because she wanted a world for
her children, grandchildren, and her great grandchildren, that would
sustain them in the years ahead.
We saw that family gathered from all over the state, and all over the
nation, in death, in the same way that she brought people together in
life.
Our time on this earth is
very brief, even her 86 years was not enough! We always deserve more,
we always want more, but the beauty of this mother’s
life is that with her 86 years, she rejected pettiness and jealously
and affirmed each day with the spirit of family love, hard work, and
social commitment. May she rest in peace, the peace she worked so very
hard to accomplish within her family and humanity on earth! WHO WAS THIS
SPECIAL HUMAN BEING? SHE WAS ROVIN REUVIN’S MOTHER.
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL THE MOM’S!!!
