On Saturday, April 28, the city commission hosted our first ever, Arbor Day celebration. City officials, including Mayor Norman S. Edelcup, Vice Mayor Lewis J. Thaler, Commissioners Roslyn Brezin, Gerry Goodman, Danny Iglesias, and City Manager John Szerlag ceremoniously planted a Cassia tree at Sen. Gwen Margolis Park. After the city officials threw the first shovels of dirt on the tree, several of the children in attendance assisted with completing the job, emphasizing the growing number of young families in the community. As Mayor Edelcup stated, providing more play space for them is a top priority for our city.

Guests also enjoyed getting their faces painted, or creating several projects, including decorating a flower pot and then planting seeds so they can watch the beauty of nature at home. After enjoying such a beautiful morning, city officials and residents are looking forward to next year’s celebration.
