From the desk of Lewis J. Thaler
By Vice Mayor Lewis J. Thaler
The 8 th of May was a historic day for Sunny Isles Beach!! The Groundbreaking ceremony for the K-8 school was held at the site. Many dignities from the Miami-Dade School Board, as well as your Commission, joined in dedicating our school. We all look forward to its completion by August 2008.
You should have received a card announcing the new book about Sunny Isles Beach called, “From Sandbar to Sophistication: The Story of Sunny Isles Beach” by Seth H. Bramson. Read how our city came into being and see more than 190 pictures of the area: both old and new. This book will be on sale for $10.00, but if you bring the card to City Hall anytime through December 31, 2007, you will be able to purchase one for $5.00. On Saturday, May 19, you may purchase the book at City Hall between 11:00am to 2:00pm and have the author, Mr. Bramson, sign your copy..
Are you ready to celebrate? Our tenth anniversary party will be held Thursday, June 14, Friday, June 15 and Saturday, June 16 with different events planned each day and at different locations. We have the Netanya dancers performing their various folk dances on Thursday evening at the Ramada (please call City Hall for free tickets), T-shirt contest for children, Family Fun night on Friday, an antique car parade on Saturday and all this culminating into a fun evening of food, games and fireworks on Saturday. For more information about times and location, read the Sunny Isles Beach newspaper or click on SIB TV cable access channel 77. We hope to see you at all the events.
For those of you who wanted to know who to speak to about condo problems, the Ombudsman’s phone number in Fort Lauderdale is 954 202-3234 and the phone number for the Bureau of Compliance is 954 202-3982.
Our thanks to all of you who called, sent cards or visited, when my mother, Mildred, passed away last month. My father, Milton, Madi and I appreciated your thoughts and prayers.
