Commissioner Lewis Thaler

1224 Commissioner Lewis Thaler presents the key to the City of Sunny Isles Beach to Edna Spitzer, Manager of Incoming Tourism.Six months have flown by since I took office as your Commissioner. Many meetings and many things have been accomplished in that time. From having a beach access named for long-time Golden Shores resident Ellen Wynne, to working on getting a new school started in Sunny Isles Beach, to finishing the rules and regulations for our Town Center.

1237 Edna Spitzer presents a framed picture to be hung in the lobby of City Hall to Commissioner Lewis Thaler. One outstanding event for me was having the honor of representing our City in presenting the "key to the City" in Netanya, Israel. Netanya, our sister city, is a seaside city on the Mediterranean Sea with an almost seven mile long beach and home to over 175,000 people. My wife, Madi, and I toured Israel from Jerusalem to the Golan Heights and found Netanya to be one of the fastest growing cities in that part of Israel (Netanya is located between Tel Aviv and Haifa). It is a beautiful city with many high rises and many beach resorts. We will promote travel between the two cities to bring us closer together.

The bathrooms at the Ocean II Beach Access are now opened and have been beautifully landscaped. Likewise the Ellen Wynne Beach Access has been landscaped and is now awaiting benches to complete the task. The stamped paver crosswalks project will be finished this summer. The school for our children is in the works. The property for the school will be purchased or put into eminent domain. A school committee has been formed and will be chaired by Bob Welsh. If you are interested in participating in the school committee, please call City Hall at 305-947-0606.

Please remember, if you have any questions, call me at the above number. I am always glad to hear from you.
