For the third year in a row the City of Sunny Isles Beach had the honor of hosting the Israeli Independence Day Boat Parade. The event took place on Sunday, May 7, 2006. Guests enjoyed live violin music provided by Shalom Band, refreshments and impassioned addresses from Mayor Norman S. Edelcup, Vice Mayor Roslyn Brezin and the Israeli General Consul Dr. Yitschak Ben Gad.
The festivities began at 10:00 a.m. at Haulover Marina. As boats arrived, they were given Israeli flags and streamers to adorn their vessels. Following the ceremony, with perfect weather and the wind at their backs, 12 boats left the marina lead by the Sunny Isles Beach Marine Patrol and paraded north on the Intracoastal Waterway with the City of Aventura Marine Patrol keeping everyone on course at the end. Horns blared and passengers waived as they passed through Sunny Isles Beach.
