Hurricane Kit Shopping List

Alyce HansonTo help you prepare for the beginning of hurricane season (June 1); for the past 12 weeks we have been publishing a weekly shopping list. This list below combines those 12 weekly lists into one. Adjust the list according to your needs and family size. It is recommended that you have enough supplies on hand for 3 – 10 days. You can also find the 12-week list on the City’s website at www.sibfl.net/emergency.asp.

Grocery Store

  • 1 gal. water per person per day for 2 weeks (and pets)
  • 1 large jar peanut butter
  • 1 large jar of jelly or jam
  • sandwich bread (freeze ahead)
  • instant coffee, tea, powdered soft drinks
  • 2 cans ready-to-eat-soup
  • 4 cans meat
  • 4 cans fruit
  • 4 cans ready-to-eat vegetables
  • 1 large can of juice
  • 3 boxes quick energy snacks (granola)
  • 1 box crackers
  • dry cereal
  • special foods for special diets
  • adult vitamins
  • pet food, diapers, baby food
  • hand-operated can opener
  • matches (in waterproof container)
  • oven mitts
  • disposable eating utensils, plates, cups
  • personal products
  • 1 bottle of shampoo
  • 1 large tube of toothpaste
  • 1 box sanitary wipes or liquid sanitizer
  • liquid dish soap
  • unscented liquid bleach
  • ice chest
  • large plastic food bags
