Summer Brings Many Changes
By Vice Mayor Lewis J. Thaler

Vice Mayor Thaler OfficialAs hard as it is to believe, the hurricane season is swiftly coming upon us again. That means having water, flashlights, batteries, non-perishable foods as well as an evacuation plan if the need to leave the area arises. As an added incentive, starting June 1st and lasting for 12 days, hurricane supplies are tax free!!

The life guards have advised us that the season for rip tides is coming. Watch the flags at the life guard stations to see the conditions of the ocean. Let’s all be safe, rather than sorry.

We welcome the opening of our new library. It is setup for all the residents including our children. The computers are plugged in and ready to go. The library is stocking DVD’s, audios and tapes as well as all kind of books. If you presently have a Miami-Dade Library card, you are set to go. If you don’t have a card, bring ID and a bill with your name and address on it and a card will be issued to you.

Sunny Isles Beach has had two new condos opened- The King David and Le Meridien Condo/Hotel, which houses the newest restaurant in our area called “Bice”.

Many of you have been asking when the Post Office will be opened in City Hall and we have been informed that it be ready by July. The mobile Post Office is set up behind City Hall in our parking lot and is opened from 9:30 am to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Miami-Dade has delivered new large garbage cans to the west side of Sunny Isles Beach. The county will pick up anything other than recyclables inside these oversized cans.

Madi and I wish everyone a happy and safe summer. If you have a problem or question, call your commissioners at City Hall at 305 947-0606.
