Strict Enforcement of Resident-Only
Parking Begins July 5.
By: Robert C. Solera, Assistant Administrator
The City has had the foresight to purchase parklands and is moving forward with
park development and improvements. This development has created a parking need
in the areas of the Senator Gwen Margolis Park at 17815 North Bay Road, and the
future Active Park site at 18115 North Bay Road where there are plans for a community
center and ball field.
To help meet these parking needs the City Commission has approved the creation
and location of resident-only parking areas as listed below.
Resident-Only Accessory Parking for the Active Park
Phase 1: includes striping the north side of 180 Drive and the south side of
181 Drive, and posting the parking area as reserved/restricted "Decal Only." (Now
complete.)
Phase 2: includes retrofitting the north side of 182 Drive, creating 11 turf-blocked
parallel parking stalls, and posting the parking area as reserved/restricted "Decal
Only."
Resident-Only Parking at Senator Gwen Margolis Park
Phase 1: includes striping the north side of 177 Drive, and the east side of
Church Street, and posting this parking area as reserved/restricted "Decal Only." The
right-of-way easily accommodates about 18 spaces with very little cost or effort.
Phase 2: includes retrofitting the west side of Church Street (in a similar fashion
as the completed turf-blocked area along Atlantic Blvd), creating 5 handicapped
spaces, and installing a sidewalk.
Phase 3: includes retrofitting the south side of 178 Drive, and creating 9 turf-blocked
parallel parking stalls including the posting of the parking area as reserved/restricted "Decal
Only."
Staff is overseeing the development of these designated parking areas, which
are being completed in phases. Note: The order above doesn't necessarily indicate
the order in which the parking spaces will be completed.
First Resident-Only Parking Spaces Complete
The first phase of resident-only parking for the Active Park is now complete
with the striping and installation of "Restricted Parking Decal Only" parking
signs along the following two streets:
south side of 181 Drive.
north side of 180 Drive.
Resident
Parking Decals
Cars parked in the 180 and 181 Drives "Restricted Parking Decal Only" areas must
now display "Resident" parking decals. These decals, see sample in Figure 2,
can be purchased through the Code Enforcement and Licensing Department in City
Hall at 17070 Collins Avenue, Suite 250.
The "Resident" decals cost $50.00 per fiscal year, October 1 - September 30.
If purchased sometime during that year the decals are prorated. For example,
the cost of purchasing in June a "Resident" parking decal that will be good for
this fiscal year is $17.00.
The table below lists the cost of decals for the rest of this fiscal year (ending
September 30, 2004).
Prorated
Cost Resident-Only Parking Decal
Month of Purchase Cost
June 2004 $17.00
July 2004 $12.50
August 2004 $8.50
September 2004 $4.00
A new $50.00 resident-only decal must be purchased for the new fiscal year effective
October 1, 2004 - September 30, 2005.
Strict Resident-Only Parking Enforcement Begins July 5
Parking enforcement staff are currently issuing warnings for cars illegally parked
along 180 Drive and 181 Drive. However, starting July 5, 2004 there will be strict
enforcement of these resident-only parking areas and parking tickets will be
issued.
The Code Enforcement and Licensing Department is responsible for Parking Enforcement
in coordination with the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department. Both Departments
will be enforcing the parking regulations.
