City of Sunny Isles Logo

It's Summertime, and the Livin’ is Good
By Commissioner Roslyn Brezin

As we celebrate our City’s 8th anniversary, we can reflect on all that we’ve accomplished and all we have to look forward to. Beautifully designed signs now mark the entrances to our City. Residents and visitors can feel safe to walk the streets, visit our parks and beaches, and enjoy the many amenities Sunny Isles Beach has to offer.

We’ve expended every effort to improve the quality of life for our citizens. The installation of decorative street lights on 159th Street has been completed and those on 174th Street will soon be done. We anticipate the groundbreaking in the fall of 2005 for the Active Park, which will include a community center and little league baseball field.

We just finished celebrating our City’s eighth birthday at our annual event the third Saturday in June. This year’s party included fireworks at the Samson Oceanfront Park.

City offices are fully operational in the new Sunny Isles Beach Government Center, 18070 Collins Ave. I was so pleased to “Show off” this beautiful Government Center to some residents who missed the staff guided tour at our Grand Opening February 25, 2005.

The Sunny Isles Beach Branch Library on the ground floor of the Government Center had its official Grand Opening June 14. The City entered into an agreement with Miami-Dade County to provide this service to our residents. We are happy to see so many people using this new facility.

Also on the ground floor of the Government Center a United States Post Office will soon open. Look for announcements in the newspaper and on Channel 20 for the date this new service will begin.

A City Official’s role in today’s Government is to be available to residents to answers questions and represent their concerns at Commission Meetings, to work with City Staff, and to make our City efficient in its interaction with the community. As a result people will continue to be proud to live in Sunny Isles Beach, the Jewel of South Florida, with its beautiful beaches, landscaping, attractive residences, restaurants, markets, and businesses.

I appreciate your input and want to take this opportunity to say “Thank you.” Continue calling me at 305.947.0606; and visit my office at the Government Center, 18070 Collins Avenue, Floor 4, #414.
