“New In Blue to Serve You…”
By Chief Fred Maas
On May 19, 2006, three police recruits from the Criminal Justice Institute and Police Academy graduated and began their service for the City of Sunny Isles Beach. These three police cadets had studied long and hard (almost 6 months) prior to their graduation. I was honored to have been selected by the graduating class to offer the ceremonial address.
We are very pleased to advise you that we feel we have selected and recruited the very best available for our city. I would like to introduce them to you and tell you a little about them.

Police Officer Cory Miles
This young man is a former military policeman in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served as the class leader due to experience and leadership. He was at the top percentage of his class academically. Cory grew up in Pennsylvania and attended school in that area, receiving an AA degree in college. He served his country for 5 years in the U.S. Marines and did a stint in Japan as well. Cory will be a good asset to law enforcement and we hope he enjoys a long, successful career here in Sunny Isles Beach. Welcome Officer Cory Miles!!!
Police Officer Bryan Page
This young man grew up in South Florida his whole life. He attended Westminster High School and subsequently FIU. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in 2005 in Criminal Justice. Bryan has worked for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms here in Miami. He is delighted to be a part of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Family. His hobbies include, outdoor sports in his spare time. Welcome, Officer Bryan Page.
Police Officer Luke Plesa
Luke is another local high school attendee having graduated from Chamanade Madonna in Hollywood. He grew up in the Plantation area. After graduating high school he moved on to Seton Hall University, a prestigious and academically recognized university in New Jersey. He concluded his studies at FIU where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. During his college career he also had the experience of an internship at the State Attorney’s Office. Just like the other new police officer, Luke is an avid sports fan and he is grateful for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Sunny Isles Beach and join our police family. Welcome aboard, Officer Luke Plesa!
In addition to our police recruits who recently graduated, we also were fortunate enough to hire a new female officer by the name of Erin Kelly. Officer Kelly came to us thru the interview process since she had recently graduated from the police academy at Valencia Community College. She was a certified police officer when she came to us and we are extremely pleased to have her.
One of the many attributes and talents Officer Kelly has is the ability to communicate thru sign language to the hearing impaired. She is fully adept in the art of American Sign Language and has already utilized that skill in her short time here in our city. This is a tremendous addition to the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department and the Community we serve. Officer Kelly enjoys outdoor sports as well and we welcome her to our city and police department. Welcome Officer Erin Kelly and all the newest additions to our agency and to serve our community.
