Great Saves, Outstanding
Kicks: "Sunny Isles Beach U-15 Boys Soccer Team Not Disappointed
With Final Results"
By: Pietro Ricci, Athletics Program Coordinator
On Saturday, May 22nd, the U-15 Boys Soccer team took part in a "Coca-Cola Tournament" at
Amelia Earhart Park. 32 teams from all over the state of Florida had entered
the tournament with high hopes. SIB registered in Group D as the 30th team before
the list was full. The teams listed in that group were; Southern Soccer Coalition,
Team Boca, and Palmeras FC.
The first game was against Southern Soccer Coalition. Sunny Isles Beach trailed
at the half, had many opportunities in the second half to tie, but time had run
out and SIB ended in a loss. The second game took place against Palmeras FC.
SIB played all their hearts out knowing that they could not lose anymore games.
With Palmeras FC being a year-round league, SIB could not match up with their
game style. On the third and final game of the day, Sunny Isles Beach faced yet
another aggressive team from Boca. Knowing that SIB had little chances of advancing
to the second round on Sunday, they played to the fullest. Team Boca won the
game and advanced to the second round.
After the three games, the players were not disappointed with their performances.
Since Sunny Isles Beach only practiced for a couple of months together, they
knew what they were going to compete with. These teams from all over the state
of Florida practice day-in and day-out throughout the year for tournaments like
these. SIB will definitely continue to prosper with a competitive boys team for
the future.
As summer approaches, the team will reunite in the fall and hopefully embark
their way back to the "Copa Coca-Cola Tournament" in 2005 with different results!
