Are you prepared for the 2005 hurricane season?


This is the question asked by Chief Fred Maas as he and members of his command staff met with residence of the Arlen House Condominiums.

Rick Feisthammel and Lt. Mike Grandinetti of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department provided valuable hurricane preparedness information to the residents of the Arlen House Condominiums

On the heals of the 2004 record breaking hurricane season, Chief Maas, Sunny Isles Beach Commissioner Roslyn Brezin and Mr. Paul Levine, Arlen House Property Manager felt that it was particularly important this season to assure that the residents of Sunny Isles Beach are well educated and prepared with a “Hurricane Plan”.

Residents of Arlen House Condo’s pick up informational brochures on hurricane preparedness.Being a barrier island on the northeast coast of Miami-Dade County, Sunny Isles Beach residents will be one of the first to be evacuated in the event that a hurricane threatens South Florida. A major concern of the police department is that many long time residents of Sunny Isles Beach have become complacent and in the past, have elected not to evacuate their homes upon the issuance of an evacuation order.

Lt. Grandinetti and Lt. Feisthammel answer follow up question and personal concerns of residents regarding hurricane issues.During the meeting at the Arlen House Condominiums, the police department stressed the importance that all residents start planning now, have a plan in place and notify friends and family members of their plans. Residents were also provided with informational brochures that provide valuable information on evacuation bus pick up locations, emergency shelters, shopping lists and much more. Applications for the Miami-Dade Emergency Evacuation Assistance Program were also made available to those residents with special needs.

The key point made at this meeting is that proper preparedness and planning will save lives!
