Sunny Isles Beach Summer Camp is Rockin’ and Rollin’!
By Sylvia Arias, Program Coordinator
This summer, the city is hosting several summer camps, for a variety of age ranges. Most of the camps are well underway and our campers have been enjoying a wide range of field trips and activities, including the Broward Museum of Science and Discovery, AMF Bowling, and CB Smith Park. Our Camp SIB, for ages 5 – 12, enjoys swimming twice a week at Florida International University Aquatic Center. For those younger campers who do not feel totally comfortable swimming on their own yet, we have private instruction provided by one of the lifeguards at FIU. This younger group was also afforded the opportunity to participate in the grand opening of the city’s first library, a branch of the Miami Dade Public Library System, inside the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center. Our campers enjoyed story time, and then participated in the rest of the celebration. All of our campers are looking forward to using the library facilities often throughout the rest of the summer.

Our first ever teen camp, Adventure Camp, has enjoyed many field trips to include activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, sailing, paintball, rock-wall climbing, bowling, and much more! The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department was kind enough to take our campers out on a Marine Patrol boat, to give them a tour of the Intracoastal Waterway and an introduction to the operations and procedures of our Marine Patrol. The campers are enjoying all of these activities and the friendships they are making at camp.
Camp Tot-Lot has continued to be a success, with instruction in yoga, music, art, and sports. This camp has provided a good opportunity for toddlers to be introduced to a school atmosphere and learn how to interact with other children their age. We hope that this program will continue to expand throughout the coming years.
There are still a few weeks left of summer, and we also have a Junior Lifeguard Camp which will begin July 25th. For details or information on any of our summer camp programs, please call (305) 957-1306.
