Walter Pesetsky
Lynda Peeler
Florida
was not new to Walter Pezetsky when he came here to live as an adult. He was
born in Brooklyn where he lived his first two years then his family moved the
Florida until he was 8 or 9. World War II came and his family moved back to Brooklyn
where he attended junior high at PS 174 and high school at HS 109 in Brownsville.
He went on to Thomas Jefferson and Hunter College in the Bronx. He had a swimming
scholarship that was usurped by the football department so he came to Miami and
coached the competitive swimming for the City of Miami Beach. With his undergraduate
studies in finance and economics he went on to the University of Miami Law School,
specializing in Insurance Law. During his schooling he coached at North Miami
Beach Senior High.
He married Cindy Cone, a student at the University of Florida. She transferred
to the University of Miami. They produced four successful children; the oldest
son an MD who lives in New Orleans; a son who is a photojournalist and does major
purchasing for national companies; a daughter who is a CPA in Washington, DC;
and the youngest son is an attorney practicing in San Francisco. Cindy was a
teacher who went back to school and became a computer analyst working for a major
company.
Walter's sterling career has included litigation for and against municipalities
from protecting the public through class action, to representing hospitals and
developers negotiating municipalities and county governments. He has gone before
two counties and many more cities in zoning issues. He has been the Mayor of
North Miami Beach for several terms, served as Municipal Judge for North Miami
Beach, has been admitted to practice by not only the Supreme Court of the State
of Florida, but the United States Supreme Court and many more. He is a member
of professional organizations, governmental organizations and committees, fraternal,
charitable and religious organizations, and business organizations. He has been
honored by these and more.
Walter has added to his plate fulfillment of a promise to the late Mayor Samson
that he would work with the city to help keep his dream going. The promise brought
him to the Sunny Isles Beach Civic, Cultural and Beautification Trust where he
serves as Community Liaison. He is a caring man who is well respected not only
for his ability but his kindness and caring. This, in a very brief nutshell,
is Walter Pezetsky.
