A busy spring races into summer
By Commissioner Lewis Thaler

Commissioner Lewis ThalerIt is nine months since the election and I am feeling more and more confident everyday. I hope everyone enjoys a good summer. Here are some updates from the Commission.

On Collins Avenue and 169th Street, approval was given by the Commissioners at the June 17th meeting to a new building call the "Sea". There will also be a sales office at the southwest corner of Collins Avenue and the Arlen House for the latest Dezer project, Dezer Plaza Beach Resort located between 158th and 160th streets on the east side.

The lifeguard stand between 192nd and 193rd street is expected to be up and running by late summer as well as the stamped asphalt pavers for the rest of the City. While the Ellen Wynne Beach Walkway is open for all to enjoy, there will be an official dedication of it in the fall.

An extravaganza that is expected to draw more than 5,000 people from around the world is coming to the Sunny Isles Beach Trump Sonesta on August 28 and 29. The event is an international competition of jet skiers and roller-bladers and is open for the public to view.

We are moving along with obtaining information and working in forming a K - 8 school for Sunny Isles Beach. The school committee has met and will welcome anyone who is interested in joining them. Just call the City Hall at 305-947-0606 and leave a message for Bob Welsh or myself.

Again I wish you a happy and safe summer and I always look forward to hearing from you.
