Odessa City, Ukraine was the home of Armen Karr through high school. He has always loved the world of finance and immediately out of high school he began trading in local futures. In 1988 Armen, his brother and parents emigrated to the United States.

Armen was an industrious young man, taking the first job that was offered. He worked as a manager of about 120 people for Golden Chocolate wholesalers in New York. He came to the opportunity to open his own grocery store in Brooklyn and after a few years sold this to follow his interest in finance. He went to Wall Street and worked for Investment Banking firms, one being Leeb Money Management where he learned about "Personal Finance". This led to his current business, Basis Financial, getting its start in New York. During his New York experiences he met and married his wife Elena who many in the community know from her previous job at Florida Savings Bank; she now is in real estate. They have a five year old daughter Angela.

In 2001 Armen moved his family and business, Basis Financial, to Sunny Isles Beach. He began by providing services to financial institutions. He chose to expand this service by opening his doors to individual investors. One of his early efforts in Sunny Isles Beach was as one of the founders of Solutions Pharmacy. Karr sees Basis Financial as an A-Z personalized service from investment banking, helping businesses from seed money to taking them step by step through the process of going public to private wealth management; and equities trading for people interested in full or discount service, and for a flat fee for as little as $20. Retirement Planning is another facet of the business, as well as research: helping people who have misplaced stock certificated to obtain replacements, and to help them with their disposition or future purchases. "This is not just another brokerage firm," says Karr, "It is a Boutique for individuals who want full range brokerage assistance for much less than the traditional broker."
