Sgt. Barry Noe honored for steering fleet program in right direction
By Bari Auerbach

City Manager Christopher J. Russo, Sergeant Barry Noe, Chief Fred MaasSunny Isles Beach Police Sgt. Barry Noe was recently recognized for his dedicated efforts in coordinating the Fleet Management program and personal patrol vehicle program for the city and the Police Department.

At the July 22 City Commission meeting, City Manager Christopher Russo noted, "The city and our tax base have grown quite a bit - and we're trying to catch up with everything we're doing. One of the things the general public never sees is how everyone internally chips in to accomplish what needs to get done in the city.

"From the start of the Police Department in 1998 through 2004, [Sgt. Barry Noe] 'picked up the slack' in the area of the maintenance of our vehicles. We've started a Fleet Management division as the Police Department now represents about half of our fleet as opposed to the majority of our fleet as it did six years ago.

"Jeff Maxim is our new Fleet Manager - also doubling as a Management Analyst. An unbelievably well-maintained fleet of police cars was handled by Sgt. Barry Noe for years - and we're now we're taking the next step. We're [consolidating] all the equipment. What Jeff does with computers is incredible.we're going on to the next level of evaluation, replacement schedules and maintenance of all our equipment.

"With this milestone, we are consolidating the operation Sgt. Noe started on behalf of the City. He has done a fantastic job for the past six years with the Fleet Management program and will remain the liaison to the Police Department. We wanted to take the opportunity to publicly recognize Sgt. Noe and officially thank him for all his extra effort."

Russo also noted that Maxim has facilitated the commencement of an inter-local agreement with Miami-Dade County, providing for vehicle maintenance. "This is blazing a new trail with the County - much like we did [by partnering with the County for the Sunny Isles Beach website]," Russo said. "This could be economically advantageous for the city. There is a 60 day termination clause as there are some reservations. We won't know if we have the turnaround [time] on our vehicles as quickly as we like. But if [the agreement with the County] works, [the city] can save money."
