Parking in the City of Sunny Isles Beach:
Where can I park?
By Robert C. Solera, Code Enforcement and Licensing Director

Robert C. SoleraThe City has had the foresight to purchase parklands and is moving forward with park development and improvements. This development has created a parking need in the areas of the Senator Gwen Margolis Park at 17815 North Bay Road, and the future Active Park site at 18115 North Bay Road where there are plans for a community center and ball field.

To help meet these parking needs the City Commission has approved the creation of resident-only parking areas. Understanding the needs of residents, the Department is currently working on a revised resolution to allow only residents to park on designated areas during the night time as long as they display the required permit. Designated areas are outlined with a resident only parking sign, currently posted on various areas. Other areas will be created with the same purpose.

The City also removed all parking meters along Atlantic Blvd from 183 Street to 178 Street, to provide parking spaces for those residents and visitors to park and have close access to the City Hall.

Annual Resident only Permits
At this time cars parked at the 180 and 181 Drives “Restricted Parking Decal Only” areas must display “Resident Only” parking decals. These decals, see sample in Figure 2, can be purchased through the Code Enforcement and Licensing Department in City Hall at 18070 Collins Avenue third floor.

The “Resident Only” decals cost $50.00 per fiscal year, October 1 – September 30. If purchased sometime during that year the decals are prorated. For example, the cost of purchasing a “Resident Only” parking decal in June is $17.00.

The table below lists the cost of decals for the rest of this fiscal year (ending September 30, 2006).

Prorated Cost Resident-Only Parking Decal

Cost
June 2006
$17.00
July 2006

August 2006

A new $50.00 resident-only decal must be purchased for the new fiscal year effective October 1, 2006 – September 30, 2007.
