We Didn't Let A Little
Rain Ruin Our Party!
By Susan Simpson, Cultural & Human
Services Director
The
city's annual summer party in the park was a little wet this year.
But that didn't stop the party-goers from having a great time! A small
storm blew through before the event started but even though the clouds
lingered, only a drizzle came down during the party. The clouds were
actually welcomed as they helped keep the temperatures enjoyable.
The
music provided by 'Legacy' was fantastic! Everyone enjoyed it. Young
and old and everyone in between commented on how great the band was.
They were very entertaining as they danced and played everyone's favorites.
Games, fun, food, and more fun. From checkers, chess, and dominoes, to the
rock climbing wall, slippery slide, tot lot play area, and the obstacle course,
there was plenty to do for everyone. Not to mention the very popular caricaturist,
and the traveling juggler spreading smiles as he traveled continuously throughout
the party. And the food! Great food was provided by local restaurants including;
Kafe Gol, San Telmo, and Pizza Amore. Thank you to these restaurants for taking
the time to come out and serve their tasty treats!
Then
there was the fun food; cotton candy, popcorn, and ice cream prepared
and served by our own Sunny Isles Beach employee volunteers. Thank you
very much to Yael Londono, Brenda Long, Paola Villa, and Alayne Yeash
for all of your assistance! Everyone loved your tasty treats.
Our
helpful information table was manned by the ever popular volunteer duo
of Bobbi & Gene Sweed along with Bob Welsh. This tent included information
about all of the city events as well as voter registration. Thank you
for your time to keep our guests well informed!
And how about those free showerheads! A huge thank you to Lloyd Hathcock, the
City of North Miami Beach, and the South Florida Water Management District
for this wonderful program of distributing new, water efficient shower heads
for FREE! With 900 showerheads distributed on Saturday alone, Sunny Isles Beach
is well on it's way to saving gallons of water daily. Remember, this program
is still available at City Hall. Bring in your old showerhead and you can receive
a brand new, high energy, water efficient showerhead for free.
As
you can imagine, a lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes of an event
like this. For that we thank our Public Works Department who helped get
everything ready for the big event as well as breaking it all down when
it was over. Even more behind the scenes yet most important of all, is
the staff of the Cultural & Human Services Department. Thank you
to Pietro Ricci and especially Sylvia Arias who headed the planning that
has been taking place for months to allow for this event to run so smoothly.
As always, it was a pleasure working with the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department.
They kept traffic running smoothly as guests safely crossed Collins Avenue.
Thank you to all of the departments for working so well with each other!
