From the desk of Lewis Thaler
By Vice Mayor Lewis J. Thaler
Summer is just about over for most of us and we welcome each and everyone back to Sunny Isles Beach. Remember that school has opened and to drive carefully. Next year we will have our very own K-6 public school in operation, with seventh and eight grades ready to go in by 2010.
The Commission sent Turnberry-Fairmont back to the drawing board at the last monthly Commission meeting by telling them that they could not use a parking lot on the west side of Collins Avenue for their new proposed condo-hotel on the eastside. They will be back at the next Commission meeting in September with a new proposal.
Pelican Community Park has now set its opening for the late fall early winter. The finishing touches are taking longer than expected.
As you are aware, the first real hurricane, reaching as high as a category 5, fortunately swept through to the south of Florida. Please make sure you are prepared for any future hurricanes. If you are traveling, clear your terraces; if you are staying make sure you have enough supplies to see you through it. Remember you will not have police or fire protection if the order goes out to evacuate.
To all our Jewish friends, Madi and I would like to wish you a very happy, healthy and sweet new year. L’shona Tov.
