Commissioner Lewis J. ThalerVacations and camps are over and I hope you had a nice summer and are in good health. School is open and City Hall has been busy through the summer.

The Department of Transportation has given the J. Milton & Associates the ability to improve and upgrade Sunny Isles Boulevard simultaneously with their building of the St. Tropez buildings on the south side of the boulevard. This will start in 2007.

Sunny Isles Beach has also instituted a twenty-four hour call-back policy from every department. If you call a department with any question or problem and do not get a return call in approximately 24 hours, contact the City Manager, John Szerlag or your Commissioner at 305 947-0606. Your calls are very important and we are here to help you.

On August 14th, the City completed the purchase of almost four acres of land for a park at 192nd Street and Collins Avenue. A workshop will be held in the future to see what should be in the park and everyone will be welcome to participate.

The hurricane season is here as you all know and as of now, Texaco, on Collins Avenue and 183rd Street, is the only gas station with an emergency generator. It is expected that Chevron (Collins and 178th St.) and Citgo (Collins and 178th St.) will have generators shortly. State law requires that all gas stations have generators by July 2007.

It seems like only yesterday that we celebrated the ninth anniversary of Sunny Isles Beach but a committee is already at work planning a BIG 10th year party for 2007. In the works are dinners, family night events and culminating in a grand party with fireworks on June 16th. It promises to be a fabulous event and the best ever celebration. We hope you will plan on joining us for all the fun and excitement.

Have you noticed our two new city buses traveling around our city? We also have a new sculpture “Rising Horizons” in the Town Center Park. Stop by and see it.

Hope you had a good Labor Day weekend and remember, if you have any questions please call me at City Hall.
