Biscayne Bay Society hosting '2nd Tuesday' cultural/culinary events

From concerts, wine tastings and culinary events - to celebrations of art, film, dance, literary works and historical milestones, the Biscayne Bay Society is helping Florida International University bring a world of culture, education and entertainment to the community.

On the second Tuesday of every month, from October through June, the public is invited to participate in an array of "2nd Tuesdays at the Bay" activities taking place on FIU's Biscayne Bay Campus made possible thanks to support from premier sponsors including the City of Sunny Isles Beach, City of Aventura Aventura, Village of Bal Harbour, UBS Financial Services, Northern Trust, FIU Office of the Vice Provost and community volunteers.

'2nd Tuesdays at the Bay'
Oct. 12: FIU 17 piece jazz band; food tasting presented by School of Hospitality Management; hors d'oeuvres start at 6 p.m.; performance starts at 7 p.m.

Nov. 9: "A Look Forward at Art Basel": Contemporary art - FIU art faculty - buffet dinner. *Free event

Dec. 14: Kemel Gekic, renowned pianist in concert, including a post concert dessert reception (tax deductible contribution fee)

Jan. 11: "A Look at a Major Historic Film": An FIU faculty presentation - buffet dinner
Feb. 8: "An Evening of Wine and Food Pairing": At the Southern Wine and Beverage Center on the FIU campus; four course gourmet dinner and wine tastings (this event has a fee)

March 8: Faculty Review of a Major Current Novel; dessert reception *Free event

April 12: FIU Dance Company featuring FIU students from the Theatre and Dance Department - buffet dinner *Free event

May 12: Night of Remembrance: A look back at V-Day and the end of the Holocaust - dessert reception *Free event

Academy for Lifelong Learning
Offering personal enrichment through education, the mission of FIU's Academy for Lifelong Learning is to create opportunities for adults to expand their knowledge through non-credit, personal enrichment programming in an environment conducive to social and cultural interaction.

The Biscayne Bay Society (BBS) is an organization dedicated to supporting the many outreach activities sponsored by the various departments within the entire Florida International University and presented at the Biscayne Bay Campus. The BBS mission is to help enhance the quality of life, learning and leisure in cities and communities surrounding the Biscayne Bay campus by publicizing and supporting these programs.

The BBC is also dedicated to gathering a large base of citizen support for higher education, in particular, Florida International University. The BBC is run primarily by committed residents of surrounding communities who have excelled in their personal and professional lives.they devote their time on a pro-bono basis.

Those interested in becoming members of the Management Board or "Ambassadors" to their condominiums are invited to phone the BBC office: 305-919-5381. The Board meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. for one hour. The office is located in FIU's library building, room 312B. FIU's Biscayne Bay Campus is located on Biscayne Boulevard (3000 NE 151st Street) in North Miami.
