A Busy Summer Ends
By Commissioner Lewis Thaler

Commissioner Lewis J. ThalerThe summer Olympics are over and that means that the summer season is almost over as well. I hope you all had a good and healthy one. While summer is usually a slow season at City Hall, this year it was an exceptionally busy time.

Staff has been working on your new City Hall, looking to have it ready for the beginning of the New Year. They have been putting together a new budget while not increasing the millage rate as well as working on getting land set for eminent domain to build our new school.

Our citizen committees have been working all summer and looking ahead for the benefit of all the residents of Sunny Isles Beach. I would like to thank all of them for their hard work and dedication. The School and Education Committee, headed by Bob Walsh, will have their recommendations as to whether to have a public school or charter school by the September 22nd committee meeting. The public is always welcome to attend any and all of these committees.

Three new lifeguard stands will be on the beach in October and the brick walks on Collins Avenue will be finished before the end of the year.

As usual, I look forward to hearing from you or seeing you at City Hall. Both Madi and I wish you a happy and sweet year ahead.
